Woopee - it's strike time again! Oops, sorry, i mean Type Of Social Strategy Envisaging Radical Solutions. But anyway, doncha just love it when you have all day free to admire the finer points of anti-terrorist platform rubbish bin design and perfect your excuse for being hours late for work despite getting up at 5.30am in an attempt not to be?

One of the really funky things about the strikes starting tonight is that they can be prolonged indefinitely until someone backs down or just gets fed up. The thought of them actually coming to an agreement seems a bit fanciful to me.

Mind you i appreciate that sort of single-mindedness, although how much good it'll do, what with the law raising retirement age already having been voted, is debatable (unlike the law).

Never mind the fact that many French citizens, including all those in higher education, start work well into their twenties and can never hope to retire at 60 on a full pension anyway.

Or that the German retirement age is currently 67. Or that by being small-minded now, our country, and our children, will really be in the 'merde' later on.
