I'm not exactly sure what the '29' refers to, but here we're looking at the edge of the Hôtel de Ville and something I'd never noticed before: the crystal clear marks of ammunition or shrapnel impact...

I understand that it's the city's policy to leave these in place lest we forget, as it were, and it's striking when you do come across them and realise that had we simply been living here a mere 70 years ago, we could have been feeling those projectiles whizzing past our ears.

The sombre streaking at the bottom of the shot is inexplicable, if pleasing, looking like some of the jet black spikes in the sobring memorial to the holocaust on the tip of Ile de la Cité.

Who the chappy up there is I don't know, no doubt some French luminary or other - feel free to fill me in if you're clever that way...

And why not...

This is headed straight for my 'Crap Paris' series - some nice graffiti on the piously named Hôpital Hôtel Dieu (God's House Hospital) oxygen delivery sign - sensitive.

I also notice that I'm obsessed with putting little rectangles up in the top left hand corner of my photos. My last one had a TV screen, this one an 'establishment under (not very effective) video surveillance' sign. What will it be next, I wonder. I'll let you know when it happens.

Watching the game (a game) the other night in a Parisian watering hole, who was it again... oh yes, France Spain - Spain won - I got this shot.

The evil Leffe. And the evil Spain. Although I personally prefer watching Spain play than France, although if I'm watching in France the atmosphere's understandably a bit better if I say 'Ouiiiiieeeee!!!' when France score as opposed to their opponents.

I'm still hooked on diagonals, as you can see, and I tried to fit the screen nicely into the top left of the shot, with the glass dominating - foreground interest and all that, doncha know.

Welcome back to Paris me, after a month in Chile, that's what I say.

P.S. Q: Who was Brian? A: Ask a Brit.

Not a shot that's ever been taken before, I'm sure you'll agree..! No, of course it's just a nice snap of the Seine and a couple or three of its beautiful bridges, looking glorious in the evening illuminations.

I particularly liked the lighting effect on the foreground railings, which gives another feel to the thing over and above the usual boring Seine scene...

Coming back to Paris after a month away, I expected the worst, given reports and pics of snow flurries and worse. But no. It's business as usual here, snowless, as far as I can see.

Nothing like when I took this, snow on the Pont Neuf - oh boy, I'm looking forward to getting back to pointing my lens at Paris again - baby, I've missed you ;-)

There's something strangely liberating about giving up the daily outpourings and just concentrating on simple things. Like the photos. Not that they're always simple I suppose, but that's me getting too complicated again.

Here's a shot taken one wintery night, processed to hell, and all the better for it if you ask me. Just don't look to closely - you might see the cracks...

And why not...

Today marks a turning away. But turning from something means turning towards something else, and in this case it's the photos I'm turning to, as I give my Paris-inspired rants a rest for a while.

To be honest, I'm tired and a bit dried up, especially after the big Catch Up I submitted myself to just now.

So I'll be keeping the Paris and I blog going, but with less blah-blah and more simple comments on the photos which I reckon I can still keep churning out.

Hope you'll bear with me as I go through these changes. The photos are still the same, as is the person producing them. I just needed to move focus slightly. I know you'll understand...

And why not...
