I almost wouldn't have published this here as I don't add much to the sign itself but firstly I don't have any other pics at the moment and secondly I was pleased to find it when I had written this little children's verse and was desperately looking for an elephant, the way you do!

I'd like to say it was an ancient old enseigne of Paris but it's not even that, as far as I know. It's just another funny dangly artefact of the type you see if you walk around with your gaze raised as opposed to glued to the floor to avoid doggy dejections...

And why not...

Tripping The Cables Electrique

As an avid visual collector of old Paris plaques this one pleased me because a) it sure is old, and b) I don't remember having seen one like this before.

Judging by the state of the plaque I'd be a bit worried about the state of the 'cables electrique' which go with it, at the mythical distance of 1m, although in which direction, up, down or in, is anyone's guess.

It's funny, the thing's so corroded on the left that the screw seems to be valiantly holding on to a few slivers of rust for all it's worth. The shiny new 'thing' - I honestly don't know what it it - up on the right highlights the sorry state of this poor little Parisian plaque, but I know which one I prefer.

And why not...

It's yellow, I think we can agree on that much. Whether it's promoting pens (the logo) or smoking (the megalighter) is another question. But it's yellow. You don't' get much more yellow than that, I can tell you and I know, I have the burnt retinas to prove it.

You see more and more of these sponsored cars of all sorts roaming the streets these days. As for the photo, I just tried to get as much yellow in there as possible, along with a bit of human reaction if at all possible. What's your reaction? Red with anger, green with envy... or yellow with cowardice about giving your opinion? Just kidding.

And why not...

Loneliness of the Short Haul Commuter

Maybe it's a symptom of the times we live in but whenever I'm like that guy in the corner I can't help wondering if eight grungy guys are gonna do 'a tour' of the passengers and relieve us of our wallets, iPhones and anything else they take a fancy to.

Luckily that's not quite happened to me, not yet, but it has to others. More often the situations much less hairy, as you sit contemplating the rows of empty seats ahead of you, which bizarrely gets you to thinking about life, commuting and everything.

I enjoy commuting and the Paris metro and RER system is almost a second home to me. I've seen new designs come and get run down I don't know how many times. This will always happen.

I was in Chile the other week and was slightly freaked out to find myself aboard a Paris metro trundling through downtown Santiago - seems they'd bought some old stock a while back. Pretty hard to be like this guy over there, the thing always seems to be packed. Anyway.

Never Mind The Bollards

(Yet another) street artist hits the, err, bollards and lampposts of the city, in the form of a cut out woman.

It's a little bit cheeky and utterly incomprehensible but then a lot of street art is. Maybe it's one of a series. I mean, it is in that I've seen a couple of other 'women' around Paris but maybe there will be other forms to make things a bit more interesting.

It's the dilemma of the diamond guy who does those mirror diamond things. They're ok, but ultimately ever so samey. So he broke out for his solo show with more variation and 3D elements to the basic shape.

Whether women will find this offensive or men find it titillating I couldn't say. But at least it cheers up what's an otherwise completely banal piece of street furniture, not that it hasn't been done before - remember the spooky eyes someone painted on them a while back?

And why not...
