Shadow Man

Shadow Man, originally uploaded by Paris Set Me Free.

Not a 'Paris street photograph' in the strictest sense of the term...
(actually, it's got f*ck *ll to do with Paris) but it was part of my
daily grind, so i'll include it here.

One of my trainees' students (i teach teachers, you know...),
otherwise known as the guinea pigs, discovered a pleasant light game,
and we captured it.

Thanks, Shadow Man! (you know who you are)...

Great Service!

Great Service!, originally uploaded by Paris Set Me Free.

A church and a train so close together - seems a bit strange, right?
Right!

So where is it?!

Frown and Pout in Paris

Frown and Pout in Paris, originally uploaded by Paris Set Me Free.

Ahh, those happy, cheerful faces, those sparkling sunny smiles on the
daily commute.

This is line B of the RER train system which traverses Paris, famous
for strikes, bombs and, well, more strikes.

A lot of people travel through the city every day. No, really, a Lot.
And many of them are tired. No, really... Tired.

Retrospectively Yours

Retrospectively Yours, originally uploaded by Paris Set Me Free.

Ahh, what a retro pleasure to discover a hole-in-the-ground peeing
place from time to time. It's less funny if you want to do more than
pee, but i don't think you need any more details (you do need strong
thighs though).

Where to find these charming relics of a more upstanding era? Well try
the more working class cafés for a start - they often haven't felt any
pressing need to change.

i used the word 'retro' above because i played a cassette tape to some
of my students today (trainee teachers) and one of them said: 'Wow,
that's retro', and i'm still mulling over the comment and trying to
remember the precise moment at which i crossed over to the 'retro
generation', but i can't quite put my finger on it.

Catching Some Rays

Catching Some Rays, originally uploaded by Paris Set Me Free.

Paris Surprise: Guess Where?!

i'm trying out a new idea here on the 'Paris and I' photo blog - a
photo quiz!

Be the first to guess where/what/who it is, and earn my lifelong
respect (unless you live just opposite).

Be the last to comment on the photo, even if others have guessed, and
i'llbe particularly kind to you!

Quite a hard one to start off with i think - i reckon you just had to
be there! So where is 'there'? Where is it?

Open Sesame

Open Sesame, originally uploaded by Paris Set Me Free.

Ahh, so sweet to rediscover my good old friend, my Paris pal, my metro
matey, my... well, you get the idea. After one (whole) month without
my trusty 'Pass Navigo' - the modern version of the even gooder older
Carte Orange for nostalgists - i was getting severe withdrawal symptoms.

Due to the vagueries of life i spent April passless, juggling between
lifts and single tickets and turnstyle-jumping and all manner of
indignities...

So it is with great pleasure that i refind myself a true 'Parigot',
nonchalently waggling his monthly sesame-opener in the general
direction of the sensors (one doesn't touch, nous) and arrogantly
striding through, the half-downturned mouth corner the only hint to my
self-professed superiority. The sickening, self-confident, slimy
arrogance of the monthly metro Navigo pass holder.

Babes Behind Bars

Babes Behind Bars, originally uploaded by Paris Set Me Free.

Behind bars yesterday, the notorious Play Twins, aka the Nappy Nabbers
are finaly returned to parental custody.

Renowned for their brazen feats of daring, as well as their now
legendary dribbling skills, the tiresome twosome have been terrorising
baby clothes outlets up and down the country ever since they started
their teething tantrum last Tuesday.

Worried retailers will be relieved to hear that the two little tykes
are back in their playpen instead of roaming the land looking to romp
away with the latest Agnès B body or the hottest Converse or Reebok
booties on the market.

But beware: given their renowned tearaway tendencies, it won't be long
before they're on the crawl again!
