There's a little van in a little corner of a little passage in the backwoods of Montmartre which has tracked my progress over the years.

Only $3.46 on Amazon!
I've seen it chugging around the streets occasionally but for the most part it seems to live in aforementioned Gloomy Place, but far from gloomy. Rarely have I seen a cheerier van nor a more colourful one which hasn't been graffitied to kingdom come.

It's actually touting the wares of a Patisserie-Boulangerie called the Coquelicot, or 'poppy' to you an' me guv, and how splendid it is too.

I'm amazed it hasn't actually been attacked by the graffiti squad, living around the corner from one of the most notorious wall-plastering haunts on the hill. But then again those decorating the mouth of the Passage des Abbesses are obviously a higher calibre of street artist than those who tag little white vans of an evening, of whom there are are a large number in this city, judging by the quantity of ex-little white vans in existence, especially on market days.

Long live the little poppy-covered definitely non-white van of Montmartre and long may it roam its sacred slopes (and remain graffiti-free)!

And why not...
