A curious window display caught my eye the other day on the Quai des Grands Augustins I think it was. Can you guess what it is?

In fact we're looking at a gold (coloured, at least) sliced egg-shaped respresentation of what's on the other side of the road, sorry quai, the Pont Neuf.

The fascinating Musée de la Monnaie is one of the places I've yet to visit but it's on my list for next year for sure.

They say they create money as well as medalions and other souvenirs, but I couldn't find too much information about the stuff we actually carry around in our pockets. I reckon that's done in some secret location and this place - La Monnaie de Paris - is more or less for decorative and investment purposes in special editions and such like, but please correct me if necessary.

If the thing we're looking at in this window is solid gold I assume we're looking at several million euros' worth. If it's just painted plastic I'll be disappointed but not surprised; despite the bars it might be too tempting a target for some, and given the spate of jewellery and teller machine attacks these days some people will try to rob anything, even a bridge!

And why not...
