Just for fun I tried to see if my golden key would unlock the mysteries of the heavy heart encrusted door, and as luck would have it...

Well! How about that..? A hidden courtyard which will have to remain hidden on Place des Vosges, behind aching portals - lovely!

Truth be told, a 'local' of some sort saw me fiddling and asked if I'd like a look, which I said I would, and the rest, as they say, is history. Except I don't know what it is.

Other than that it's certainly very old, and probably (I'm almost certain of it) one of the entrances through which King Henri IV was supposed to have entered his pavilion, directly facing his queen's apartments, although apparently they never did actually live there, his life coming to a bitterly truncated end (of a dagger).

I once babysat taught English to French politician Jack Lang's granddaughter in Place des Vosges, and can confirm that the apartments hidden away and owned by the likes of DSK and Anne Sinclair are very nice indeed. Champagne socialism at its finest, I can tell you... (oops, sorry, don't do politics, my mistake :-o )

And why not...
