It would be interesting to see the very first photo taken of this vieux chêne (old oak) which is also the name of the bar, but was it always?

Rue Mouffetard is a treasure trove of bewildering bits and bobs from the past, from politically incorrect shop signs to strange building behaviour to fit in with the traces of Philippe Auguste's wall and old corner fountains and building-sized graffiti and smaller stuff too and old bas-reliefs and highly decorated facades and so the list goes on.

I wonder also what some of the first beer ads looked like and if they resembled anything like this one for Delirium Tremens, "Elected as best beer in the world", being the subtitle, and "Getting pissed out of your mind and knowing about it the following day" presumably serving as a subtext.

But in the end it's the magnificent enseigne, truly one of Paris' finest, which sticks in the mind, and shakes it a little.

Is it my imagination or can I see bits of body parts (long, slender female limbs leap to mind) amongst those sinewy branches stradling the sturdy trunk? Or have I just had a few too many jugs of DT and am starting to lose the plot. But I never even went in the place, I'm just the photographer, I swear!

And why not...
