i think this is the guy who stank out (and damn near emptied) one of my favourite bookshops, L'Oeil Ecoute, at Montparnasse last time i was here.
Now he's on duty, filthy rags hanging off him, scaring the passers-by to hell.
The reactions are the best, when they realise they have the gauntlet of his hoary outheld hand to run - and some run...
Surprise surprise: when i place a coin in his hand, a childlike voice murmurs a 'merci', a head nods acknowledgement, I move on, alive, unscathed, a pocket slightly lighter, a memory card slightly fuller, and a head slightly... heavier.
