Just around the corner from the Saint Sulpice church is the poem Le Bateau Ivre (The Drunken Boat) by Arthur Rimbaud.

It covers a wall and is beautiful in its elegance and power.

I didn't realise that Rimbaud included it in a letter to Paul Verlaine to introduce himself and later became his lover.

Maybe I should scrawl some of my stuff on the Paris walls too. Not that I'm looking for lovers.

This shot also gives us a good opportunity to appreciate the odd disparity between the two Saint Sulpice church towers, the southern one never getting finished properly, even to this day.
