Paris and I ~ 'Look Ma, Hands. And Wings.'

iPhone Photo Chronicles
~ Look Ma, Hands. And Wings. ~

What is it with sticking wings on humans? Even if you forget the mythical stuff, isn't it all a bit silly, or perhaps just poignant, that we seem to think that one of the most exalted states we could possibly reach would involve the sprouting of wings (which is biologically impossibe, obviously) quickly followed by a soaring up and away into the skies?

In olden times, of course, we thought there was more up there than orbiting satelites and the odd teapot, but nowadays all these winged cherubs and Homeric hoverers seem just a tad anachronisitc.

Then again, the lofty (and admirable) principles of rising above oneself and doing the best you can, striving to improve your position (and possibly that of others if it suits you), not forgetting freedom, can still be appreciated today.

Here we can see the famous Pinacle de la Lumière, erected in 2003, in hommage to the four great cornerstones of the modern République Française, namely Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité, and Vos Papiers, with the lesser-known minor piece, the Génie de la Liberté, on the left. Still flying high, just about.

Perhaps humanity would like to follow in the courage of Icarus and escape. The folly is the light and warmth of the sun.

It is obvious that you do not believe in Angels, Sab. I do.

Learning to live with what we've got, and make the most of it, has to be one of humanity's biggest challenges Rob.

I don't believe in anything much I'm afraid Marilyn, unless it's Paris, or my aching feet from walking around it all afternoon.
