A splendid Paris knocker complete with nymphs or some such adornment, naked of course.

I've recently revamped my interest in all things street architecture so expect more of this sort of stuff in the near future.

Unfortunately (although not for the inhabitants) they are generally soldered to the door so you can't do any late night hammering to waken the dead from their graves. Unless you've got a knuckle duster I suppose.

This might not strike you as a particularly remarkable photo, other than the rather nice composition and rendering even if I do say so myself. But wait!

Tucked away at the bottom of the image is a hark back to an earlier era. An age before the advent of the internet, when the Minitel was king, and 'new' technologies like the little green and blue stripey thing on the drainpipe were just being rolled out.

For it is none other than the precursor of the French mobile phone system we know today. I can't remember what it was called, regrettably - was it Tam Tam or something like that? If anyone knows please pass it on. These signs meant that if you stood near them there was a fair chance you could get a signal.

Now they're just a comical reminded of the past back in the days of 1G technology or whatever it was. The messages were carried by drainpipe for all I know! How things change.

If you ever find the quality of these photos dubious, don't forget they're all iPhone pics, often taken highly on the fly, in poor lighting conditions, rain and cold and then processed as best I can.

That said, I still end up with quite a few images I'm pleased with, or which at least remind me of a certain moment in a certain place.

This is... - did you guess? - Invalides on the esplanade on a chilly autumn day, with a glorious carpet of auburn and amber to enjoy.

From the age of four little kiddies have to have their own metro tickets 'like the grown ups', which is a little mean but there you go.

This poster's to remind us of the fact. For those sneaky parents who might try to stretch the limits a bit.

This is the very modern line 14 at the Bibliothèque François Mitterrand station. In case you were wondering.

Curious creatures line the Paris streets if we cast our gaze downwards towards the corners of certain double doorways.

These were to stop coach wheels from damaging the buildings I believe. How much damage they did to the coach wheels is another matter.

Keep a look out for them as you wander around the city - you might see some cool ones.

The reputedly narrowest street in Paris, the rue de Venise, looks directly onto the Pompidou Centre in the heart of the city.

It took me quite a while to recognise it for what it was, one of ~est roads, as in longest, shortest, widest and of course narrowest as here.

There's even a historic fountain on one corner to add another point of interest. And dogs. Always lots of dogs...

It's with very mixed feelings that I write this message.

It's great that homeless people have pets, companions in their less than comfortable lives. But then there's the lives of the animals themselves.

This little doggy lives in a box. It's bizarre. Why does he stay there? Is he drugged? Little doggies are active and move around like crazy, I would have thought.

So you see, mixed feelings.

Do we give more to homeless people with cute little pets? Is that the idea? I have no idea. It's a crazy mixed up world we're living in and one that demands reflection. That's my reflection, for what it's worth.

How much for this doggy in the window..?
