This deliciously decorated building, as you may know, is destined for destruction. But not before a whole bunch of street-type artists hit its innards with some wonderful graffiti. The queues go around the block, but not for long.

The next time I go past it might not even be here. Ephemerality. Yep, it's a word, and this is a living definition of it.

A cheery chappie, well, a cheery umbrella anyway, and boy did he colour the place up when he went by...

That's the Eiffel in the background on a rainy station platform in the semi-suburbs of the city.

Although I wished the young guy staring back bugged me at the time I quite like him now - he seems to be in awe of that in yer face parapluie. You've gotta 'assume' it, as the French would say...

One of the many shapes and patterns which drift by us, perceived or otherwise, as we go through our Parisian days.

I've always enjoyed the grills around the Paris pavement trees and here's a nice example.

Throw in a few autumnal leaves, a bit of over the top colouring, a surprising absence of cigarette butts for once and there you have it, a bit of city street level glamour as only we can appreciate it.

Another blue-lit beauty, I'm sure you agree. A statue in a little square near the Seine is home to this most remarkable sculpture which I've already covered on Paris and I a few years ago.

It's the chopped-in-half man, leaning his elbow nonchalantly on his own feet, which disappear off to the right while he, or his torso at least, storm in from the left.

It was as night fell, whence the orangey-lit windows and serious blue hue. Hope that's all right with you!

Late night Nordic skiing captures in the half-light of a chilly Paris November evening? Not quite, but a couple of intrepid elderly walkers, complete with striding poles, indeed they are.

The picture has been reduced to a sort of impressionist mosaic due to the low light and some serious zooming in but it makes a change I guess.

So keep your eyes peeled in case you catch a glimpse of these strange nocturnal creatures doing their thing, and good for them. Join them?

If anyone asks you what it means that the light gets 'bluer' at night, just show them this photo, straight out of the box (almost).

The cold, sunless, cloudy, fading daylight contrasts intensely with the orangey yellow tones supplied by the indoor illumination.

I could have used one of the settings on the iPhone app I was using to make it look much more natural and stone-coloured again, but I thought I wouldn't, just for the hell of it.

The horrendous building, by the way, seems to be some sort of 'Préfecture' or major police office or something like that, just for the record. I'd always wondered when I saw it from the other side of the Seine and thought, what the... is that?!
