There's quite a lot of crazy cowz mooching in and around (and above!) the Paris area if you keep a lookout for them.

Spotted the aerial ones (there's another just out of shot) just by chance as these two young ladies were inconsiderately blocking my shot of the more down-to-earth sisters.

There was a cowabungatastik event a few years ago where artists had to decorate a whole herd of humble resin cows any way they saw fit, and many of them date from then.

i just regret not having yet found my artistic signature at that point, so there is, i'm afraid, no carbon neutral infinity squared cow sticking its head up its own backside, a yawning void in the bovisphere, i'm sure you'll agree.

Tell me if i'm going over the top with the old vignetting and stuff, but that's the mood i seem to be in at the moment...

So no funny story to relate this time, no sly social comments (it's early), just a simple street shot from the city i seem to spend my time in.

The bright copper pans are the symbol of the 'Chez Clément' chain of brasseries and certainly cheer up the urban landscape, doncha think?

i wrote a poem about copper once..

Hidden away in an obscure corner of the Montparnasse cemetery, you could be forgiven for thinking that Romanian sculptor Brancusi's famous kiss statue is right next to a prison. It's also, confusingly, not on his own grave, but that's another story..

In effect, the austere, OK, grim wall backdrop complements the emotion of the work rather well.

In the spirit of 'my other car's a Porche', i'm tempted, exceptionally, to slip in another pic i took at the same time which illustrates another point of view. We'll see. (And we did ==> )

Always sobering, never indifferent, the memorial to the deportation remains, exists, somehow 'just is' a part of the hidden city for those who are curious enough to discover if they wish.

The lady who was working there yesterday managed to infuse her broken English instructions (..you can take photograph in the monument but please, no talk and no video, for respect..) with just enough humanity.

She held out her abject script, like one of the Romanians on the train proffering their sob story, and apologised for the poor computer translation with a hint of a wink in her words.

To what extent it really matters to her if someone discretely videos down there, i don't know, but she certainly takes her restricted remit seriously, and i'm quietly pleased that my art falls on the right side of the bars this time.

And why should i be in my favourite Paris tearoom, in my favourite Parisian passage, if not for an interview with the charming Parisian bloggeuse, MissaParis.

If she manages to pull together something coherent from the mishmash of blah blah i hit her with this afternoon then she deserves a webload of readers, so go and have a look (our interview isn't published yet, it just happened two hours ago)!

Down And Out In Paris

A strangely surreal graveyard for defunct street furniture and lamps has popped up in the soon to be destroyed Les Halles recreational area opposite the Saint Eustache church.

Forlorn lanterns vie with broken benches and aimless signposts for lawn space close to where six million Parisian souls were buried before being dug up again and transferred to what is now known as the Catacombes at Denfert Rochereau.

It must all be part of the scheme for a brand new Les Halles, the current one deemed under-optimised and, to be frank, insalubrious in parts. I'll keep you posted.
